A small church in the lower part of the Old Town with magnificent frescoes.
The temple of St. Nicholas, built in the 14th century, researchers associate with the name of the Serbian king Stefan Milutin. The name "Orphanon" (Gr. ορφανός - orphan) is owed to one of its patrons, Nikon Skuterios Orphanos. According to another opinion, an orphanage operated at the monastery, and St. Nicholas is venerated here as the patron saint of the poor and orphans.
It is located in a cozy little courtyard of the Old Town and has preserved for us the most striking examples of Renaissance iconography by the Paleologians of the 14th century.
The closest bus stop to the temple is N. 22 "Agios Nikolaos Orfanos".
You can walk here from the center of Thessaloniki (about 15 minutes) ortake bus N. 22.
