The oldest monastery in Thessaloniki with unique mosaics
The monastery of LATOMU, dedicated since the beginning of the 20th century to St. David of Thessaloniki, is the oldest Christian monument in Thessaloniki. It was founded at the turn of the fifth and sixth centuries on the site of Roman buildings and was originally dedicated to the Savior of Christ or to the prophet Zechariah. The unique mosaic on the altar apse, depicting Christ Emmanuel, is also from the time of its construction and has been wonderfully preserved to this day despite the age and historical vicissitudes that have befallen the monastery.
The closest bus stop to the temple is N. 22 "Osios David".
From the center of Thessaloniki you can get here on foot (about 20 minutes) or by bus N. 22.
