The center of the world Established by Zeus, the navel of the earth, the religious and political center of antiquity, one of the most important monuments of the Greek history of Delphi.
It’s situated in the Southwest of central Greece, on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, near the coast of the Corinthian Gulf.
The Pythian Games took place here starting from the VI century BC. This event was the second most important after the Olympic games. Here the Roman Emperor Nero performed in the theater and the wise Aesop ended his life. The treasuries in Delphi were full of gold and precious gifts for many centuries.
Delphi became the center of the episcopacy after the decline of paganism and the affirmation of Christianity but in the following centuries gradually came to desolation. By the beginning of the archaeological excavations at the end of the 19th century at the place of the ancient sanctuary, there was a small village. It’s inhabitants having moved several kilometers to the west and founded the modern town of Delphi, not far from the Archaeological Complex of the Delphic Oracle. Its museum of is one of the richest and most spectacular museums in Hellas today.
In addition to the Historic Monuments of the Phocis Region, there is a famous diversity of the landscape (high mountains adjoin here with valleys covered with olive plantations and azure coast), an abundance of greenery and excellent cuisine (fine vegetables and dairy products, a real paradise for cheese lovers).
There is the city of Arachova in ten kilometers from Delphi. This is a Greece's largest and most prestigious ski resort. One of the most picturesque towns of Central Greece with many traditional taverns, youth cafes and luxury hotels.
Arahova is a small mountain village that stretches on one of the slopes of Mount Parnassus. Despite the high popularity among travelers, this village managed to preserve the traditional rural flavor with a measured life, old houses and friendly locals.
Arahova is known as one of the most luxurious ski resorts. There is everything for lovers of winter sports: about 19 modern trails with various levels of complexity, snowboard park, ski lifts, shops with sports equipment and much more.
Here you can visit the picturesque cave Korikon and admire the stunning frescoes of the Byzantine temple of Agios Georgios. You can look at the Time Rock with a clock, dine in one of the local taverns or you can have a wonderful time just strolling through the narrow streets of the village and enjoying the incredible beauty of the mountain scenery.
There is the monastery of St. Luke in 36 km from Delphi. This is one of the most ancient in Greece, founded in the X century by the Reverend Luke Stiriot to whom the monastery is dedicated. The magnificent Byzantine architecture of the 10th century combined with the well-preserved icon-painting and mosaic temple decoration made the monastery the most significant Byzantine monument of Central Greece.
The shore of the Corinthian Gulf is 17 kilometers from Delphi. There is the resort town of Itea with beautiful beaches and fish taverns.

In Athens use the bus from the bus station KTEL on the street Liotsion. There are few races a day to Delphi. On the car along the E75 near the town "Castro" there is the turn to Delphi, then follow the signs.
