The mysterious place is a part of divine history that cannot be passed by.
In the mountains of Psiloritis, half a hundred kilometers from Heraklion, lies the cave of Ideon. The mysterious place is a part of divine history, impossible to pass by. It was a sacred center of worship in antiquity. It is called the second cave of Zeus. Pythagoras visited here. And the flesh of the ancient mountain still keeps the legacy of those times.
If you come to Crete, it is worth visiting an amazing corner of Greece. According to legends, here at an altitude of over 1500 m goddess of fertility Rhea hid the future Thunderer from her bloodthirsty husband. The fearsome Cronus was foretold by his mother Gaia that he would be overthrown by one of his children. So the fiend ate them mercilessly.
After giving birth to her sixth child, Zeus, in the deep Dectean cave, Rhea decided to save her baby at all costs. A stone was prepared for the tyrant, wrapped in diapers, which he immediately swallowed. And baby Zeus was hidden on Mount Ida - in the cave of Ideon. The nymphs fed the baby with the milk of the divine goat Amalthea. To prevent Kornos' spies from hearing his cries, the local demons, the Curetes and Corybantes, sang songs and jingled their shields.
Here, to this sacred abode, the son of the God Zeus, the Great King of Crete, Minos, climbed once every nine years to meet his father. Thousands of Greek pilgrims, worshipping the God Zeus, came and held secret mysteries with the mysterious name of the "Rings of the Ideas". According to one legend, the great Pythagoras was one of them.
The road to the cave is a narrow serpentine road, riddled with rockslides and rain. The higher you climb, the more mysterious and interesting it becomes. It seems that the time stops and little has changed over the millennia. The Ideon Cave greets with a flat area and an impressive size entrance in the form of a mountain semi-arched created by nature itself. It consists of three halls and an aditon, a room in which all the sacred sacraments took place. The aditon was open only to the select few. Tourists allowed to visit only one room, for security reasons. The other exits are walled up.
The Ideon Cave will not impress visitors with its imposing size, amazing stalagmites hanging down like huge icicles. It is truly a sacred place where the god of the gods, Zeus, found his salvation, grew and matured. Where he was worshipped, praised, worshipped and asked for help. Here you can feel the energy of those distant years in an amazing way. Inside the cave, in the reigning silence, one gets the impression that under the vaulted ceilings one is about to hear the cries of a baby.
Greece, beautiful and unusual, gave the opportunity to see with his own eyes the most ancient sanctuary, to visit one of the famous places of worship on the island of Crete. During the excavations, which began in 1885, were found bronze shields depicting Zeus, striking for their elegance. There was also jewelry, ivory, ceramic and metal objects. Many of them were of artistic value, testifying to the refined culture of those times. Or maybe it is a clear example of the presence of the Most High Powers?
