One of the most famous places dedicated to the sunshine drink in Santorini is the Koutsoyannopoulos Family Wine Museum. This is probably one of the most unusual museums in Santorini, because here you can not only learn a lot of interesting things, relax, but also bring back a great souvenir - a bottle of Santorini wine with a unique taste.
It took more than twenty years to assemble and present to visitors a remarkable collection of the museum. It shows in detail and examples how winemakers worked in classical times.
The museum is an underground and above-ground exposition. The museum exposition consists of the original things of the winemakers of the past centuries, including barrels, presses and special tools. A part of the exposition is wine warehouses and cellars, workshops restored to the smallest detail. The museum exhibits personal belongings of one of the founders of the Koutsoyannopoulos winery, which has become a family brand.
Most of the current exhibits, were of practical use to Santorini winemakers in the past and the centuries before. Their practicality, allowed not to change the technology of wine production for centuries, using old, proven methods to create a delicious drink.
Part of the exposition is placed outdoors and allows you to see the entire wine-making process. You can touch with your own hands all these ancient mechanisms, which even today can be used for the production of the sunny beverage.
The wine tour offered by the owners of the winery-museum, costs 9 euros. For this price they offer to try 4 wine drinks and walk through the corridors of the museum with an audioguide. You can choose a story in the most appropriate language, including Russian.
The intensity of the exhibition depends only on the visitors themselves, so you can stand in front of the exhibit you like for as long as you want.
If we are talking about the wines produced by the winery, the visitors can choose from a variety of Mediterranean wines:
The museum is open from November to March from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and April to October from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Sunday, the museum starts at 10 a.m. It is not a bad idea to take some money with you, as there will be a unique opportunity to buy great wine.
You can take the bus to Kamari to the stop Koutsoyannopoulos. The car usually goes to the beaches of Kamari. If you leave the center of Fira, it takes 10-15 minutes to get to the museum.
